Current Status of Project:
This week we met with Dr. Klaesner and borrowed some force transducers from his lab. It seems like these are much more suitable for our needs since they are paper thin force sensing resistors. We tested the resistance values in Patricia’s lab and verified that they work properly. Over the past week, we have put a lot of work into finding suitable force transducers by comparing strain gauges, force sensing resistors, load cells, and stretch transducers. We also spend time drawing up potential designs of our hardware device so that it is very comfortable for the patient and the physician to use. We currently have three independent alternative designs for the hardware of our device.
Work Planned for Next Week:
We plan on looking into purchasing another force sensing resistor from a company called Phidgets. We have the option of purchasing their force transducer, an adapter, and also a device that receives analog input in order for us to manipulate the data. Now that we have advanced significantly on the hardware side, we plan to start to look more in depth into the software side of this project. We also plan to work on our progress report as well as our presentation throughout the next week.
Anything needed from Client or TA before work can progress:
We need to run our hardware designs through with our client to see if he has any suggestions for improvement or change.
